Tell Me About...

Adult Information Classes

Adults who are interested in learning more about their faith, whether members of Lamb of God or visitors, are encouraged to attend Adult Information Classes. These classes, taught by the pastor, teach and review the doctrine of the Lutheran church.

All parents of children attending Christ Lutheran Academy also attend these classes, so that the whole family is taught the faith.

Baptism

What is baptism?
Baptism is not simple water; it is the water comprehended in God's command and connected with God's word.

Why should I baptize my child?
Baptism works forgiveness of sins, delivers from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe God's promises.

Confession and Absolution

"Confession has two parts. The first is that we confess our sins; the second is that we receive absolution that is forgiveness from the pastor as from God Himself not doubting but firmly believing that our sins are forgiven before God in heaven." (Luther's Small Catechism)

What sins should we confess?
"Before God we should plead guilty of all sins, even those we are not aware of, as we do in the Lord's Prayer; but before the pastor we should confess only those sins which we know and feel in our hearts." (Luther's Small Catechism)

Which are these?
Consider your place in life according to the Ten Commandments: Are you a father, mother, son, daughter, husband, wife wor worker? Have you been disobedient, unfaithful, or lazy? Have you been hot-tempered, rude or quarrelsome? Have you hurt someone by you words or deeds? Have you stolen, been negligent, wasted anything, or done any harm?" (Luther's Small Catechism)

What is private confession?
In private confession, we confess those sins only which we know and feel in our hearts. The pastor stands in God's stead when he forgives our sins.

Will the pastor look down on me when he knows what I've done?
The pastor already knows that you sin, just as he is aware of his own sins. During private confession and absolution, he is standing in the stead and by the command of Christ. He forgives your sins; and just as our sins are washed away by Christ's blood, so the pastor will wash away all memory of your confession.

When can I go to confession?
Individual confession and absolution is offered regularly at Lamb of God. Please contact the pastor for times during the pastoral vacancy.

Confirmation

All children who are not enrolled in Christ Lutheran Academy are encouraged to attend Midweek classes. Classes are taught by the pastor and other teachers throughout the year.

Children are confirmed after being catechised in the faith, examined by the pastor, and child, pastor, and parents agree that the child is ready.

Marriage

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod firmly believes that the Biblical basis for marriage is a loving relationship between a man and a woman, with Christ at the center.

Marriages at Lamb of God are Christ-centered, and based on the public worship services of the church.

Please contact the pastor if you are interested in getting married at Lamb of God.

The Liturgy

When you attend a service at Lamb of God, you will notice that we follow a set order of service, as printed in our hymnal Lutheran Service Book.

The order of service follows the same pattern the early Christians used. Holy Scripture is the basis for all spoken word during the Divine Service. Scripture readings are taken from an historic pericopal list that has been used by the Church for centuries. Hymns are selected carefully to teach Biblical truths and to support the Scripture readings each week.

Lamb of God Lutheran Church offers the Lord' Supper every Sunday morning at 9:00 am, and every Wednesday evening at 6:45 pm.

The Lord's Supper

The Lord's Supper is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine. When we receive the Sacrament, we receive forgiveness of sins, as Christ promised.

Who should receive the Sacrament?
Those who receive the Lord's Supper at Lamb of God are baptized Christians who have been instructed in and publicly confess the Evangelical Lutheran faith. For this reason only confirmed members in good standing of our congregation or sister congregations of the LCMS are ordinarily communed at this altar.

What if a visitor wishes to commune?
If a visitor desires to commune, we ask you to please talk to Pastor before the church service.

Welcome!

The weeks and months following Trinity Sunday are what the church terms "Ordinary Times." In the historic one-year series of readings, these are known as the Sundays after Trinity, when we learn about the growth of the Christian church in the early days--and today.

The Divine Service is celebrated every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., and every Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

All are welcome at Lamb of God! Please, join us.
